The University of Bristol has a long history of training teachers. The PGCE is a one-year programme that will qualify you to teach and is recognized internationally, including being able to transfer your qualifications back to Canada. Both primary and secondary programs are available.

Programmes here are current, challenging and innovative, and students are exposed to both the comprehensive research in the field of education which is done at Bristol, as well as current practice.

You will spend two-thirds of your time on placement in at least two contrasting schools. Notably, our programme includes a short placement in a primary school as well as offering the opportunity to gain experience in a special school. The remaining time is spent at University where you will join our diverse student community.

Strong community and student support sets this program at Bristol apart from other providers and is frequently commented on by both students and external inspectors. Another key element is the strong practical experience that you will gain in the classroom via the strong network that the University of Bristol has built with a large number of partner schools. When you complete your program, you will be well versed not only in theory and research but in the day to day activities which come with extensive classroom experience.
