The University of Southampton medical school has been training students to be caring, competent physicians for almost 50 years. Southampton General Hospital is one of the UK’s foremost teaching hospitals. As a student at the University of Southampton Medical School, you will experience working in a clinical setting almost from the start of your course. This means that you will already be meeting patients in hospital and primary care settings, early on in your program. Another benefit for students is having access to world-leading medical research groups, and being able to carry out your own in-depth project.

Learning at Southampton means that you will:
- attend weekend shifts as a healthcare support worker which will allow you to experience multi-professional teamwork
- spearhead your own research project in year 3
- take a student assistantship module in year 5
As well as meeting patients during the time you are gaining your clinical experience you will also learn from volunteer patients in simulated environments and prepared patient cases. Students also have the chance to be involved in research and entrepreneurship with industry partners and experts in a variety of areas such as the physical sciences. In the final years of the program, students will be placed across the Wessex region.
